讲座提要
The lecture entitled “Education, Health and Human Dignity: Building Bridges Between Greece and China” examines the interrelationship between education, health and human dignity through the lens of intercultural dialogue between the Greek and Chinese philosophical traditions.
Drawing on Aristotle’s concept of eudaimonia and the Confucian emphasis on self-cultivation and lifelong learning, the speaker analyses education as the acquisition of knowledge and process of social reintegration, empowerment of autonomy and restoration of human dignity. Particular attention is given to practical experience in cultural education and the development of communication and social skills among individuals who have become disconnected from formal education due to mental-health challenges or addiction, within the framework of services of the Ministry of Health.
This experience is linked to the World Health Organization’s concept of the Healthy City, emphasising that health extends beyond healthcare services to encompass inclusive living environments, access to education and culture, and meaningful participation in social life. The principle of “Leaving No One Behind”, central to the United Nations 2030 Agenda, is highlighted as a guiding imperative.
Finally, the lecture proposes the development of substantive cooperation between the China-Greece Civilization Mutual Learning Center and Greek institutions in the fields of public health, cultural education, applied ethics and social inclusion, with the aim of fostering knowledge exchange and joint initiatives that connect science, culture and real human needs.
